Neil:
"The US is like a baby with a bomb," he barks, his eyes blazing with the famous stare. "The reaction to France that the administration allowed to happen is so immature. These people have their own opinion - they're French! They're not fuckin' Americans, they're French ! Vive la difference, hello? And this big deal about Bush landing on an aircraft carrier? Talk about a six-year-old kid with a Tonka toy - we got it here."

Vom Bob-Dylan-Board
There are some rare occasions rare places and in this world when I find my head heart and spirit total in total harmony with themselves and the surrounding environment and what I witnessed in Paris last Saturday night was on it's worth being born for. Well I headed away from sunny Switzerland on the TGV at 9:15 am on Saturday morning and arrived in gray and rainy Paris at 13:20 . I headed out to Palais de Congres to find the amphitheater. It was a nice location in the 17th zone of Paris with many bars and restaurants a what do you know James Joyce's Irish Pub straight across the street from the concert hall. Luckily I was staying just a 5 min walk from the amphitheater. The show was due to start at 20:30 so I spent most the afternoon strolling around Paris and at 19:00 my heart started to beat faster and I made my way to the concert hall at 19:20. There was no real rush as I had a fixed seat anyway. Palais de Congres is a big place with many shops and conferencerooms so the amphitheater just forms a small part of it. When I arrived people were on there way into the amphitheater. It is a big place and holds about 1000 seated people. I was in row 8 so I was right down there near Neil. The upright piano, grand piano, pump organ and 3 guitars were on the stage. Before the show started I along with many people walked right up to the stage to admire Neil's instruments. My God are they old... it was like an antique store. The old Martin D45 was right there just 1 meter from my hands.

It has marks on it from all the years. The same for the other guitars. The old battered upright piano and pump organ looked like something from the last century. It was frightening in a way. You would expect a horse a wagon to collect them after the show. Soon after I went back to my seat and there was an announcement in French about keeping quiet during songs and not to use cameras. I knew already the first set would be all new songs so I waited with interest Next the lights go down and my heart was exploding in all the cheering as on walked the legend. There he was right there looking great wearing jeans and a short brown coat with
longish hair He gave a wave sat down and picked up the D45 and put on the harmonica and started an absolutely fantastic song I never heard before called "Falling from Above". Oh my God the sound of the D45 acoustic guitar and harmonica and his voice as good as ever. The song had such beautiful chord progression and melody. I hesitate to say it but it filled my eyes with water. Words are not enough to describe it. When the first song ws over Neil says " Merci beaucoup mes amis" ...... "you know what I say about America and France...... viva la difference" All Neil's new songs are great
with great guitar work. He told a great story in between the songs of of the Green family living on the North coast of America. There were alot of wise words in the story. As he told the story each unfolding part had a song associated with it the set finished with "Be the rain"another fantastic song. Neil mentions Bob Dylan in one of his new songs which drew some cheering especially from me. Neil also has a pint of Guinness on stage with him as was sipping it a saying cheers to the audience also (Ha ha... I always knew he was a Paddy trapped inside a Canadian body :) )Some asshole in the audience shouted a Neil to shut and play and that he talked too much. Neil stopped andsaid .."take care of him ...it's alright" In between another song some woman shouted God Bless you Neil Young and Neil responded " He'll have to do more than that.... but I appreciate the feeling" Then after the 15 min break the 2nd Set.... which was stunning Lotta love (on the Martin D45) --- way better than original Expecting to fly (on the grand piano) -- lovely Old Man (on the Gibson Sunburst) --- YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!overwhelming Don't let it bring you Down-- I'm half dead. Then he gets the Taylor 12 string guitar and I expect Pocahontas or Cortez but I get a beautiful Winterlong --- one of my favorites... life does not get better than this. War of man -- Dedicated by Neil to the animals and children.

Heart of Gold --- I've always dreamed of seeing Neil do it live and there I finally had it. Extended harmonica solo at the end. The only bad part about the show was that it had to end. He played from 20:50 to 24:00. He thanked his crew at the end for the great tour which was now also over. Afterwards I headed dazed to the Irish Pub across the road for some Guinness... it was packed out with people Thank you Neil for the great show and weekend. P.S. Mr. Springsteen was also playing in Stad de France on the same night so there was also a lot of Bruce head floating about. They probably got drenched in the rain at that out door show.
